After you select a host for your website, make sure that you get invoices for whatever you pay for that. Apart from the initial payment, you should get invoice for all subsequent payments that you make to host for some additional features or an enhancement. An invoice is important because of following reasons.
- Whatever you spend on designing or hosting your website, you can include that amount in tax planning. So ask your host for an invoice so that you can discuss it with your tax planner or agent.
- Your host may have an option of auto-debit of your monthly or yearly payment from your bank account. If you want to use this option, ask your host to send you the corresponding invoice so that you can use it for tax planning. Apart from tax planning, your accounts or finance department may need it to manage accounts.
- You can use the invoice when you find any discrepancy in your credit card payments, the amount you paid to your host, and the amount in your bank account. You can challenge your host’s claims of irregular payment.
- If your host promises to send you the invoice via email or by post, ensure that you receive it well on time, and regularly. You should take responsibility for getting this invoice since sending it to you may not be a on priority for your host.
- If you make any additional payment for more bandwidth or for additional space, get an invoice.
